Cottam Manor in Preston, Lancashire is a high quality, state of the art care home of 72 bedrooms over 2 floors that is well placed to take advantage of the existing and proposed transport infrastructure, local amenities, and good quality outside spaces.
Designed from the outset to cater for the specific needs of the residents, staff members and visitors, the overall design is thoughtful and inclusive with bedrooms clustered into smaller groups to create a homely feel for residents. Facilities include social, recreational spaces, as well as more peaceful and relaxing areas. All service facilities are available in-house to minimise the use of third parties and deliveries to and from the care home.
A mixture of ridge and eaves levels have been used to ensure the scale of the building fits well within the existing streetscape. This approach also helps to visually separate the building into three connected blocks reducing the perceived mass of the building.
The design uses a limited palette of materials, reflecting the traditional materials used on the neighbouring buildings. All the external materials have been chosen with a mind to future maintenance and cleaning, with inert materials given precedence.
The proposed site plan provides 28 parking spaces, including three accessible spaces and a separate drop off ambulance bay adjacent to the main entrance 2 motorcycle spaces and 4 visitor bicycle spaces.
